Description

First pattern Westwall Medal (Westwall-Medaille) struck in bronze. The decoration was instituted in 1939 and awarded to military personnel, civilian specialists, and construction workers involved in building and strengthening the Westwall (Siegfried Line), as well as servicemen stationed along Germany's western frontier during its defensive preparations. The obverse features the national eagle above crossed sword and shovel before a fortified bunker, symbolizing the combined efforts of the armed forces and construction organizations in creating the defensive line. This example is an early bronze issue and is complete with its original full-length award ribbon. Excellent collector condition
