Rare variant from the early war years, made of leather. Unlike later canvas-made types, these examples are far less common. The rear canvas straps are missing due to long-term improper storage.

Imperial Russian Army canvas ammopouch. Mint, 1915.  Most probably the factory stamps with double head Imperial eagles were painted over with black paint by Red Army depot, but they are still good visible under remains of black paint.  These pouches were in use by Red Army after revolution.

Red Army Leather Rifle Ammo Pouch. This WW2 leather ammo pouch was used extensively during the war and same period repaired. As Soviet Russia entered the war in 1941, the production of such pouches was halted. In some places the threads have come apart over time.
