German M40 helmet NS64 Eastern Front camouflage
German Wehrmacht steel helmet model 1940 marked NS64, where NS indicates the manufacturer Vereinigte Deutsche Nikelwerke and 64 denotes shell size. The helmet is finished in a summer camouflage using light green grass tones with brown spots. This camouflage type is often associated with Normandy, however this example has provenance from the Eastern Front, Russia. It is fitted with a chinstrap marked Geflitter Striegau, dated 1941. The leather remains soft, flexible and without cracks. The Wehrmacht decal is preserved at approximately 80 percent, showing wear from use. The liner was most likely replaced, though the rivets match the helmet paint. Overall condition excellent.
