Description

Original Kappenabzeichen of the Austro-Hungarian Infanterieregiment Graf Daun Nr. 56 from the First World War. The badge commemorates the 56th Infantry Regiment "Graf Daun", whose garrison was located in Wadowice. As part of the 12th Krakow Infantry Division, the regiment fought in the Carpathians, Galicia, the Gorlice Offensive, Moravia, the Kielce area, and from 1917 served on the Italian Front along the Piave River.

Manufactured from white non-ferrous metal, the badge was intended for wear on the kepi of the regiment's personnel. The obverse depicts Field Marshal Leopold Joseph von Daun, after whom the regiment was named. Beneath the portrait appears the inscription Graf Daun Nr. 56, identifying the regiment and its honorary chief. These cap badges were popular unofficial regimental insignia worn by soldiers of the Austro-Hungarian Army during the First World War. Good collector condition.
