EF64 Beaded M42 Luftschutz Helmet

Product Code: o476/3
Price: 650.00€

Description

Rare Beaded M42 Luftschutz helmet manufactured by Emaillierwerke AG, Fulda, marked EF64, where EF identifies the manufacturer and 64 denotes the shell size. This marking system was used on German Third Reich helmets to identify both the manufacturer and shell size. The helmet retains its original Luftschutz grey finish together with the original front decal depicting spread wings, a swastika, and the Luftschutz inscription. It is complete with its original leather liner marked 56 and the original chinstrap. The rear rivet lacks paint and was most likely replaced during service, although a factory-installed example cannot be entirely ruled out.

The Beaded M42 is considerably scarcer than the earlier M40 Luftschutz helmet. Its defining feature is the longitudinal reinforcing bead running along the crown. On the Model 1940, this construction was introduced to strengthen the double-shell design. However, the Model 1942 was manufactured from a single-piece steel shell using production methods similar to German combat helmets, and the exact reason why the reinforcing bead was retained remains a subject of discussion among collectors and researchers. Excellent condition.
