No. 98, December 1, 1942, Tuesday
Eight years ago, on December 1, 1934, the outstanding Leningrad Bolshevik, the beloved leader of our party and the entire Soviet people, Sergey Mironovich Kirov, was treacherously shot from behind.
Agents of German fascism – Trotskyist-Bukharinist bandits – murdered the unyielding and uncompromising fighter for the cause of Lenin and Stalin. But Kirov’s cause lives on!
Our people, nurtured by the Party of Lenin and Stalin, hold sacred the bright memory of this revolutionary hero.
Senior sailor Steklovkin was on watch at the central post.
During an emergency dive, the kingston valve drive cover broke, and water rushed forcefully into the compartment.
At that moment, Steklovkin displayed quick thinking and bravery. Despite the deadly danger, he managed to manually shut the valve, preventing further flooding.
His courage and decisiveness saved the submarine from disaster.
