Wehrmacht artillery reconnaissance unit soldiers, most likely from topographic reconnaissance unit - Vermessungs-Batterie. (at the rear door is visible inscription..../Beob.Abt 18). The photo shows a very rare truck in combination with car body: Einheitsdiesel, Meßstellen Kraftwagen Sd.Kfz 63. An interesting fact is that the soldiers heat the engine by setting up a fire under it. During the war the quality of German diesel engines were bad and not ready for Russian winters. That's why it was difficult to run them even at a temperature of plus 5 degrees Celsius.
