German Third Reich combat leather belt with steel hook, most likely produced in 1940. markings are present but faintly readable.
The belt shows strong traces of frontline wartime use. In this condition it was most likely brought back directly from the war and has remained uncleaned ever since. The leather displays heavy field wear and accumulated dirt while remaining soft, flexible and free from age cracks or structural damage.
The belt was shortened by its owner to a length of 97 cm, something commonly encountered on combat-used wartime belts. Constant food shortages, physical exhaustion, stress and prolonged frontline service often caused significant weight loss among soldiers, leading many belts to be resized directly during wartime use. Despite the modification, the shortening work was performed very neatly and professionally without crude alteration.
