Early bronze type Westwall Medaille für Arbeit zum Schutze Deutschlands.
The obverse bears the inscription “Für Arbeit zum Schutze Deutschlands”. The reverse depicts an eagle, sword and shovel above a Westwall bunker.
The medal shows traces of use together with light age patina. The award remains mounted on its original ribbon, something relatively uncommon as many surviving examples lost their original ribbons or were later re-ribboned.
The decoration is associated with the Westwall defensive system and the western theatre of war, often regarded as a western counterpart to the Winterschlacht im Osten 1941/42 medal awarded for the Eastern Front campaign.
