Finnish Volunteers Sleeve Shield, SS Battalion "Nordost"

Branch: WAFFEN SS
Product Code: o459/1
Price: 830.00€

Description

Finnish Volunteers Sleeve Shield, SS Battalion "North-East" (SS-Freiwilligen Bataillon Nordost)
A rare first-type sleeve shield, crafted in Finland. The design features the Finnish heraldic lion, hand-embroidered with gold bullion thread on rep fabric, with white floral elements across the red field. The first and second types of these shields were produced in Finland, with the second type distinguished by a black background and a different embroidery style compared to German-made versions.

The third type, created using machine embroidery, was produced in Eibenstock, Germany—a well-known center for Third Reich insignia manufacturing. This shield displays minor signs of wear consistent with field use.

With only 1,407 volunteers serving in the battalion, which was disbanded in spring 1943, and considering the limited number of shields of all three types, this piece stands out as an exceptional collectible.
