Krim Shield Wilhelm Deumer 3.1 Zinc First Variant
Original Krimschild awarded for the 1941–1942 Crimea campaign, manufactured by Wilhelm Deumer. Made of zinc with beautifully preserved original bronze finish. The obverse features the map of Crimea, the Wehrmacht eagle with swastika, and the dates 1941–1942. The shield remains in mint condition, never sewn onto a uniform. Only a tiny spot is visible at the bottom, but it does not detract from the overall excellent appearance.
This example is well known and attributed among collectors as type 3.1, belonging to the first zinc production variant. All parts, including the backing plate and prongs, are original. A superb addition to an advanced collection.
Historical background:
The Krimschild was instituted in July 1942 to honor German forces who participated in the Crimea campaign, including the Siege of Sevastopol. It symbolized valor and service during one of the Eastern Front's critical battles. Shields made by Wilhelm Deumer are recognized for their high quality and historical importance.
