SS-PK Frontline Report
The train wheels thunder in a steady rhythm. Above, the autumn wind rustles through the trees. The Big Dipper has almost completed its arc above the North Star. A deep, calm breath—beside him, a fellow soldier, a strong young farm boy from Annaste, has dozed off. He needs this rest, as he has been working hard all day loading military trains.
It is difficult to sleep. We gaze up at the night sky, filled with stars. But even in this moment of peace, we cannot forget that we are on our way to the front. Alongside us march our brothers in arms, ready to face the same fate.
Hundreds of kilometers separate us from home. We know there is no turning back. But knowing that we are fighting not only for ourselves but for the fate of Estonia gives us strength. These men carry in their hearts the spirit of Estonia’s War of Independence (1918–1920) and follow in the footsteps of their fathers and grandfathers.
We understand that our battle is to defend Estonia’s borders as far from home as possible. It is better to fight far to the east than to allow the enemy to come close to our homeland.
That was our mindset as the train moved ever forward, bringing us closer to the frontlines. We knew that a harsh winter awaited us, just as brutal as the past two winter campaigns.
Standing side by side with German divisions, Estonian forces have proven their strength in battle. They are strong-willed and confident in their victory, just as they were in the War of Independence.
???? The New York Times reports that Moscow seeks an agreement with Iran and the Soviet Union to establish control over the trade route through the Ural Mountains into Persia.
???? Svenska Morgenbladet states that Moscow has decided to establish a Yugoslav government-in-exile under Kremlin control. This is seen as evidence of the USSR’s desire for dominance in the Balkans.
???? Communists in the United States are actively attempting to recruit American youth through socialist teachings in universities and labor movements, such as coal miner strikes in South Yorkshire (UK).
???? In Latin America, American communists are planning to create a united front against the USA in Argentina.
???? Reuters reports growing tensions in Canada’s western coal industry, where workers’ strikes are spreading.
???? The Fascist Party of Italy and Japan are discussing joint military operations against the Allies in the Pacific.
???? The Soviet Union is facing food supply difficulties, while President Roosevelt is trying to resolve Britain’s supply chain issues.
???? Swedish socialists have intensified their anti-Soviet rhetoric, fearing Moscow’s growing influence in Scandinavia.
