U-Boat Front Clasp Silver Grade Schwerin Berlin
Original U-Boots-Frontspange in silver grade, manufactured by Schwerin Berlin. Made of zinc with fully preserved original silvering. The reverse bears the clear maker’s mark "Schwerin Berlin". The clasp shows no signs of wear and is in Mint condition.
Historical background:
The U-Boat Front Clasp (U-Boots-Frontspange) was instituted on 15 May 1944 by Admiral Karl Dönitz to recognize bravery and endurance among U-boat crews.
On 24 November 1944, the silver grade was introduced to further honor bronze holders who continued to show merit, bravery, and exposed themselves to increased risk. The number of awards for the silver grade was extremely limited, with fewer than 100 known recipients.
It is likely that due to the very small number of awards, many surviving examples of the silver clasp are found in Mint condition, as they were never actually issued.
Badges produced by Schwerin Berlin are highly valued for their outstanding craftsmanship and rarity.
