After I listened to Comrade Stalin's speech on the radio and read it in the newspaper, my heart was overwhelmed with anger and hatred toward the fascist dogs.
I consider it an honor to fulfill my sacred duty to the Motherland, which is now in mortal danger.
The leader's call has stirred the hearts of the people.
Lead us, dear Stalin — into battle!
Fascist scum will not take away our freedom,
We will defend our homeland with honor.
All as one — in the skies and at sea,
Millions of fighters rise against the enemy.

I WILL NOT SPARE MY LIFE
I solemnly declare through the Red Navy newspaper that I will be a fearless and courageous fighter.
Under all circumstances, I will strike the enemy hard and know how to secure victory.
Their plans have failed. The enemy now tastes the righteous wrath of the Soviet people.
We all feel a burning desire to go into battle, to destroy the hated enemy, to crush fascism.
We swear our loyalty to the orders of Comrade Stalin, and we call on our comrades to be just as brave.
I pledge before my comrades and commanders to fight for freedom and the honor of our homeland — for the victory of Comrade Stalin’s cause.
Our people are brave, and Soviet youth will stand firm and courageous to the end.
Comrades, let us fight like true patriots!

FROM THE SOVIET INFORMATION BUREAU
(Evening report)
Throughout July 4, fierce battles were fought near Dvinsk, Borisov, Bobruisk, and Tarnopol.
In all sectors of the front, our troops stubbornly repelled enemy attacks and inflicted heavy losses on German forces.
In the battles near Dvinsk, the enemy launched a major tank offensive supported by motorized infantry.
Our troops held firm and repelled them, destroying a large number of tanks.
Only with reserves did the enemy manage to occupy the next line.
Fierce fighting also occurred near Lepel, where Soviet troops crushed an attempt by enemy tank divisions to break through our lines.
Over 100 enemy tanks and 60 vehicles were destroyed.
Heavy tank battles also took place near Tarnopol, where our forces resisted strong enemy thrusts from the southwest.
Many enemy units were destroyed, and their attacks repelled.
Soviet aviation conducted dozens of sorties against enemy motorized columns.
The enemy suffered major losses in personnel and equipment.
Preliminary reports say that 62 German aircraft were shot down on July 4.
Naval aviation attacked enemy transport trying to cross Lake Ladoga and the Gulf of Finland.
Enemy boats were sunk.
Lieutenant Matushkin’s air group successfully bombed and strafed enemy watercraft.
Enemy crossing attempts failed.

Red Navy sailor Konoplev received a letter from his daughter:
"Hello, dear Daddy!

Goodbye for now, hugs and kisses.
Your daughter, Nina."
CARE FOR AND LOVE YOUR RIFLE
Hitler’s killers and spies are always plotting to sabotage us from behind the lines.
They send in agents — electricians, chemists — to do harm.
Such an agent might even appear at a guard post.
We must be ready, rifle in hand, to meet the enemy.
Comrades, always remain vigilant and in fighting spirit.

AT THE PARTY MEETING
For the first time in combat conditions, a Party meeting was held.
A new Party bureau of the Communist cell was elected.
Comrade Moiseyev of Zimetsky was elected secretary.
The bureau members are Red Navy men Bondarev and Vorobyov.
Their courage and steadfastness will strengthen the team.

FIGHTER PILOTS
Every day we see the enemy's endless air raids.
They are met by our fighters — the fighter pilots.
This week has been glorious for Soviet fighters —
Their firepower has scattered enemy formations in the sky.
In fierce dogfights, Soviet pilots courageously beat back fascist invaders.
Fighter pilots of the 2nd unit carry out their missions with bravery, energy, and discipline.
Pilots Lobov, Dmitriev, and Likhogotov successfully escorted bombers to target.
From great heights, they struck at the enemy with precision.
Pilot Alekseev from Vladivostok also completed his mission brilliantly.
The enemy had no time to react — our bombers were too fast.
Let the fascists learn what Soviet aviation is!
Our fearsome bombers will finish the job.

WOMEN COMRADES HELP THE COLLECTIVE FARMERS
Our female comrades gladly helped at the collective farm’s threshing floor.
They helped load grain, carried sacks, and did all the work.
Among them were Brizhitova, Knyaginina, Lyakh, Kuterev, Samoilov, Likhacheva, Tikhomirova, Varentsova, and many others.
