Death to the German Invaders!
Soldiers, commanders, and political workers of the Red Army and the Navy! Cleanse our native land of the Nazi vermin! Death to the German invaders!
(From the slogans of the Central Committee of the VKP(b) for the 24th Anniversary of the Red Army)
No. 55

Moscow
Comrades Red Army soldiers, sailors, commanders, political officers, partisans and partisan women!
The 24th anniversary of the Red Army finds the people of our country in the harsh days of the Patriotic War against fascist Germany, which has launched a criminal assault on the life and freedom of our homeland.
Across a vast front, from the Arctic Ocean to the Black Sea, the soldiers of the Red Army and the Navy are engaged in ceaseless combat, driving the German fascist invaders from our land and restoring our honor and independence.
The Red Army has once again become the shield defending our homeland from invasion. Just as 24 years ago, in the days of intervention and civil war, the Red Army was forged in battle, so today it is fulfilling its historic mission.
Back then, foreign interventionists and White Guards sought to strangle the young Soviet republic. But the Red Army triumphed over all enemies. The Soviet state survived, strengthened, and grew into a mighty power capable of crushing any aggressor. In fact, the Red Army saved the Soviet people.
Our people never forgot that new invasions could come. And so, along with industrial, agricultural, scientific, and cultural growth, the strength of the Red Army grew as well. That strength is now being felt by the German fascists.
Eight months ago, fascist Germany violated a peace treaty and launched a treacherous, brutal attack on our homeland. The enemy believed the Red Army would be defeated in weeks.
But the Red Army did not retreat from Moscow. It held the line, repelled the enemy, and broke the back of the German offensive. Exhausted and burdened by heavy losses, the Nazi troops faltered.
Throughout the winter, in terrible conditions, battles continued, wearing down the enemy and crushing his offensive capacity.
Now, German command has lost the confidence and momentum it once had. The morale and discipline of German troops has been shaken. They have lost the initiative and now fight only defensively. The myth of the invincibility of Hitler’s army has been shattered.
In recent months, Soviet forces have reorganized. There is now firm order in the Red Army. Logistics are functioning. Soldiers have learned the science of war. Morale is high.
German fascist forces have suffered massive losses — losses they can no longer conceal.
We held Moscow. We halted the enemy near Leningrad. We liberated Tikhvin, Kalinin, Yelets. Nazi forces were expelled from hundreds of towns. Tens of thousands of Soviet citizens were freed. These are not minor victories — these are major successes of the Red Army.
Today, we strike the enemy on all fronts. He bleeds and retreats. The Germans have lost their ability to mount decisive offensives.
Now the fate of the German army is sealed. The Red Army has the experience and discipline to defeat it.
This war will continue until the complete destruction of the Hitlerite armies. There will be no mercy for the Nazi bandits. They will be annihilated wherever they appear.
That is the duty and the honor of the Red Army. The strength of the Red Army lies not only in its courage, but in its will, in its hatred of the enemy, and in its faith in victory.

(Conclusion)
The task of the Red Army is to liberate Soviet lands from the German invaders, to free our cities and villages from their rule, and to restore freedom and life to our people, who are suffering under occupation and enslavement.
The liberation of Ukraine, Belarus, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Moldavia, Karelia, and all other Soviet lands is the sacred duty of the Red Army.
We fight not for conquest, but for our own land, for our homeland, for liberty and independence.
This is the difference between the Red Army and the armies of aggressors. We do not seek to enslave others — we bring freedom.
We have begun the liberation, and we shall finish it.
Let every Red Army soldier and commander remember: we fight for a just cause — the defense and liberation of our homeland.
Let there be no doubt: victory will be ours.
People’s Commissar of Defense
J. STALIN
Into the victorious fight, sailor!
On this day of glory — a day of retribution for the enemy,
From the Arctic to the shores of Crimea,
Let the thunder of righteous wrath resound once more —
We, the battle-hardened Baltic sailors!
Though darkness tried to destroy us,
We rose — there will be no forgiveness!
In honor of those who defended Leningrad,
We send a proud, clenched “thank you” to the skies.
We stand firm — ships and guns,
Pilot, infantryman, gunner, stoker —
Marching forward with vengeance
For the blood, for the pain, for belief in truth.
For Stalin!
Into the victorious fight, sailor!
Set course west!
— Vesyolod Azarov
On Red Army and Navy Day, February 23, the Navy newspaper Dozor published Order No. 55 of the People’s Commissar of Defense, Joseph Stalin.
This order is a battle cry to every soldier, sailor, officer, political worker — to all who fight the fascist invaders with weapon in hand.
The order burns with anger and sorrow for our violated land. It demands not simply to resist — but to destroy the enemy.
Stalin speaks of the strength of the Red Army, of the heroism of its fighters. He reminds us that the fate of the world depends on our victory.
This day, rallies were held in all fleet units. Sailors, officers, commissars swore oaths to fulfill the great order with honor.
The tasks set forth in the order will be fulfilled.
The enemy will be crushed.
Victory will be ours!
