The troops of the 3rd Ukrainian Front, with decisive support from the flank by the troops of the 2nd Ukrainian Front under the command of Army General Konev, continued successful offensive actions along the right bank of the Dnieper. On October 25, they stormed and captured the regional capital Dnipro (Dnepropetrovsk) and the city of Kamianske (Dneprodzerzhinsk) — key industrial centers and German defensive strongholds on the Dnieper’s western bank.

In the battles for liberation of these cities, the following units distinguished themselves:
