ELECTION CAMPAIGN IN THE WESTERN REGIONS OF THE UKRAINIAN SSR AND THE BELORUSSIAN SSR
PRE-ELECTION RALLIES
Lvov, March 20. (Pravda Correspondent). In the evening, a pre-election rally of working people was held in the Central Club of Communications Workers. The spacious hall was overcrowded. Many attendees stood in the aisles. Workers, employees, and members of the intelligentsia listened attentively throughout the speeches.
On the podium stood engineer K. Bobrik, an electrical technician and candidate for deputy to the Supreme Soviet of the Ukrainian SSR. His speech was interrupted several times by stormy applause. He spoke about the importance of the elections and the tasks facing the people's deputies. He spoke simply and clearly, in the name of the workers, in the name of the people:
— Never before, — he said, — have we been the true masters of our land. Only now have we become real citizens, only now do we elect our own representatives.
Next to speak was teacher Rozner. She talked about educating a new person, about schools, and enlightenment. Telephone station worker Kostyuk described how her life had changed since Soviet power came to Lvov and how joyfully they welcomed the news of the elections.
All speakers emphasized one message — loyalty to the cause of Lenin and Stalin, and their determination to strengthen the might of the Soviet nation.
From the streetboard: A poster reads:
"Vote for the candidates of the bloc of Communists and non-party members!"
Ternopol. A rally is held in the Red Army House. Red Army soldiers, officers, and workers speak. They talk about the unity of the army and the people, about the brotherhood of all nations in the Soviet Union.
Brest. Thousands of people have gathered in the culture park. At the entrance — portraits of Stalin, Kalinin, Voroshilov. Slogans ring out:
"Long live our great people!"
"Long live the bloc of Communists and non-party members!"
On the podium — a collective farmer, an engineer, a student, and a worker. They speak about how the people of Western Belorussia are participating for the first time in real elections in their history. People do not hide their emotions. An elderly peasant says:
— We used to live in darkness, now we see the light. May it never be extinguished!
Stanislav. At the local election commission office, there is a queue. Voters are receiving their certificates. Among them are peasants from distant villages. One of them says:
— We traveled twenty kilometers to vote for Soviet power.
