Description

Wehrmacht armored Reconnaissance visor hat with traditional badge “Schwedter Adler”. Nice quality and excellent, near mint condition, practically unworn visor hat in nice saddle shape with high peak. Size approx 56-57. The liner with correct zelluloid sweat diamond has a paper tag inside: G. A. Schilling. Militär - Effekten - Bekleidung. Potsdam Waisenstr. 24 . The brown leather sweatband is marked: EREL Patent stirnschutz. Completed with bullion embroidered eagle and aluminum wreath. All insignia is period applied to the hat. The hat has never been in collections before. A super fine example with just 2 minor moth contacts on the peak area. 

In 1815 year, the Schwedter Adler badge was given as a traditions badge to the Prussian Army's 1. Brandenburgisches Dragoner-Regiment Nr. 2 (1st Brandenburgian Dragoons Regiment No. 2), which was garrisoned in the town of Schwedt in Brandenburg, later in the period of WW2 the badge has been continued in wear by Regiments HQ and the 2nd and 4th Cavalry squad in Cavalry Regiment 6 as well as the Kradschützen-Bataillon 3.   As per Wehrmacht regulation, most of cavalry regiments have been transformed to the fast troops “Schnelle Truppen”, which means the armored, motorized, bicycle and reconnaissance units. The 6th Cavalry regiment was transformed in August 1939 - November 1940 to the new units: Aufklärungs-Abteilung 33,34,36, 79. 

The 33 Abteilung fought in Africa. 36 Abteilung fully destroyed in 1944 at the eastern front in Bobruisk area in Belarus.
