Wehrmacht Obergefreitor of the 81st Pionier battalion. The tunic is in excellent condition with minor traces of wear. No damage or loss, including traces of insect activity. Shoulder straps with cyphers 81 embroidered with chain stitch are sewn into the seam. The jacket is marked by Reitz and dated 1939. Typical model 36, in early turquoise colour wool and dark green collar. On the sleeve, in addition to the rank chevron, there is the patch of a driver of a motorboat Steuermannabzeichen. The jacket is small, the back is slightly fitted according to the style of the time, with minimal interference, which can only be detected by a professional eye. Approximate size - 48
The 81st Sapper Battalion was formed from units of the Austrian army and took part on all fronts of the Second World War, going through the Polish campaign, France and Belgium. In May 1941, the battalion was stationed in Poland in the Brest-Litovsk region, and on June 22, 1941, participated in Operation Barbarossa, from the very first hours of the Second World War, crossing the Bug River. By June 26, it had already reached the Pinsk region. In 1941, the battalion fought in the area of Gomel, KIEv, and in October in the area of Yelets and Tula. 1942-43: Kursk, Orel Livny, Bryansk. In 1944, during the retreat during Operation Bagration, the regiment retreated to the Gomel region, and then to the Bobruisk region, where it was completely destroyed in January 1944.
